AI food photography prompt example with styled dish composition

Food images become believable when the dish looks edible. That sounds obvious, but many AI food prompts create plates that are too glossy, too perfect or full of ingredients that do not belong together.

Describe the dish before the photography style

Start with the food itself: ingredients, cooking method, texture and serving temperature. Then move to plating, light and camera angle. If the model understands the dish, the styling has something solid to support.

  • Use specific food words: seared, flaky, toasted, creamy, charred, fresh.
  • Limit garnish so the plate does not become decorative clutter.
  • Choose one lighting direction: window light, softbox, backlight or overhead.
  • Avoid impossible ingredients, melting shapes and over-shiny sauces.
If the food would look strange on a real table, it will look strange in the image too.

Example food photography prompt

A realistic photograph of a bowl of creamy tomato soup with a small swirl of olive oil, cracked pepper and two pieces of toasted sourdough on the side. Natural window light from the left, shallow depth of field, ceramic bowl on a linen cloth, warm but not oversaturated colors. Avoid floating herbs, plastic texture, impossible reflections, extra utensils, text or logos.

Texture is where realism usually wins

Instead of asking for “delicious food”, describe what the viewer should notice: crispy edges, soft crumb, steam that is barely visible, uneven sauce, a few crumbs near the plate. Small imperfections make the scene more believable.
